Attendance
Attendance a teacher can mark in the thirty seconds she actually has.
Preschool attendance software fails on the same thing every time: it asks a teacher to do something at 9am that she cannot do at 9am. A three-year-old is crying, a parent has a question, someone has arrived without a water bottle. Anything that takes more than a few taps gets done at 11am from memory, which is not attendance.
Kibiscope's Attendance module is one-tap check-in from the teacher app, with the register reconciled at the end of the day. It feeds the daycare roll call, transport boarding and the parent app, so the same mark is not made three times.
Marked on the floor, not at a desk
Teachers mark from the app on the classroom floor, one tap per child. The roster is the class she teaches, not a search box, so nothing has to be looked up.
The end-of-day reconciliation is the part that turns marks into a register. It closes the day rather than leaving a half-marked list to be guessed at tomorrow — which is what a paper register becomes when a teacher is absent and someone else covers.
One mark, several places it needs to be
A child arriving is relevant to more people than the class teacher. The front desk fields the call from a parent who is running late. Daycare needs to know who stays past the school day. Transport needs to know who boarded.
Because those are all reading the same attendance record, they agree with each other. That is the whole benefit: not the marking, which paper does adequately, but the fact that four people asking the same question at four different times get the same answer.
- Class teacher — today's roster, marked in a few taps.
- Front desk — who is in, who is not, before answering the phone.
- Daycare — the extended-hours roll call, taken separately rather than assumed.
- Transport — who boarded, visible before the van leaves.
- Parents — their own child's attendance in the app, so they do not need to ask.
What parents see, and why it stops questions
Attendance and fee dues sit in the same parent app. Those are the two things parents most often message a teacher about, and answering them before they are asked removes a surprising amount of daily traffic from a class WhatsApp group.
A parent sees their own child only. There is no parent login to the web console and nowhere for a parent to reach another family's records.
Questions schools ask
- How long does marking a class take?
- One tap per child from the teacher app, against the roster for that class. There is no searching and no typing. The design constraint was that it has to be finishable during arrival, because anything that gets postponed to mid-morning is recorded from memory.
- What happens when a child arrives late?
- The mark is updated, and because the register reconciles at the end of the day rather than locking at 9am, a late arrival is recorded as one rather than quietly becoming an absence.
- Do parents see attendance?
- Yes, their own child's, in the parent app, alongside fee dues and the daily report. They do not see the class roster or any other family's records.
- Does it do biometric or face recognition check-in?
- No. Attendance is marked by a teacher in the app. We are not going to put biometric capture of three-year-olds on the roadmap and call it a feature — it is a large amount of children's personal data collected to save a few taps.
- Can attendance be corrected after the fact?
- Yes, and corrections are part of the record rather than a silent overwrite — which matters if attendance is ever the thing you need to demonstrate about a particular day.
- Is attendance included, or a paid add-on?
- Included. There is no starter tier that withholds attendance. All eighteen modules are in every plan, from ₹9,000 a year plus GST.
