Daycare
The children who stay late are the ones a register forgets.
Daycare management software has to handle the part of the day that school software usually stops before. The school day ends, most children go home, and a smaller group stays — sometimes on a fixed arrangement, sometimes because a parent called at lunchtime. That group is the one most likely to be assumed rather than counted.
Kibiscope's Daycare module is an extended-hours roll call taken separately from the school register, so a child staying past the school day is recorded as staying rather than inferred from not having left.
A second roll call, not an extension of the first
The school register answers who came in this morning. It does not answer who is still in the building at 5pm, and treating one as evidence of the other is how a child gets missed.
Daycare takes its own roll call for the extended session. The number is arrived at by counting, which is the only way to be able to say it with confidence to a parent on the phone.
The day a parent did not see
A parent collecting at 6pm has missed most of their child's day. The Daily Reports module covers meals, naps, mood and the moments worth telling, published to the parent app — which for a daycare parent is often the only account of the afternoon they will get.
Photographs pass a consent check before they are shared, so a child whose parents have not agreed to photo sharing is not in one. Under the DPDP Act consent has to be specific and demonstrable, and that is easier to hold to when the check happens at the point of publishing rather than in a policy document.
Late pickup, and who is allowed to collect
Extended hours make pickup less predictable. It is more likely to be a grandparent, a driver, or an aunt who does Wednesdays — which is exactly when a verified list of authorised adults earns its place.
The Child Safety module holds who may collect each child, and what the school is left with afterwards is the useful part: who collected whom, and when.
Questions schools ask
- Is daycare charged separately from the preschool?
- No. Every module is in every plan, so daycare is not an add-on and a child in extended care is not billed twice. Your plan is sized by active students, and a child counts once whether or not they stay late — nothing is charged per session or per module.
- Can a child join daycare on an ad-hoc day?
- Yes — the extended-hours roll call is taken for whoever is actually staying that day, rather than a fixed enrolment list. That is the case it exists for.
- Do daycare parents get the same app as school parents?
- The same app, showing their own child. For a parent collecting at 6pm the daily report is usually the more valuable half of it, because they have missed the afternoon it describes.
- How does pickup work when it is not a parent collecting?
- Each child has a list of adults authorised to collect them, and release is checked against that list. What the school keeps afterwards is a record of who collected whom and when.
- Does it track a child's location?
- No. Nothing here follows a child. It records hand-offs between adults — arrival, the extended session, and release to someone authorised. That is verification by the adults responsible, not surveillance of the child.
